Ion-exchange systems

Installation of industrial chemical filtration systems in Pontassieve

Ion-exchange systems are designed and installed to remove salts (cations and anions) from water. At our CDT Centro Depurazione Toscano headquarters in Pontassieve, in the Province of Florence, our professionals produce various ion-exchange plants for industrial chemical filtration, with due consideration for flow rates and the type of pollutants.

We offer either manual or automatic systems and solutions, ensuring the perfect management of all operational and regeneration phases.
The ion-exchange process occurs through the use of insoluble granular substances, otherwise known as resins.

These resins have either acid or base molecular radicals in their structure which can be exchanged.

The positive or negative ions on these radicals are replaced by ions of the same sign in solution in the surrounding liquid. During the ion-exchange process, there is no deterioration, solubilization or change in the number of ions.

Two types of resins can be used in the ion exchange process:
  • A gel-type resin with a micropore structure, characterized by a natural porosity limited to intermolecular distances.
  • A macropore-type resin characterized by an additional artificial porosity that is obtained by adding a suitable substance.

Mono- and multi-functional exchangers

The exchanger may be one of two types: monofunctional or multifunctional. In the former, the molecule contains only one type of radical, while the latter contains various types of radicals.
